Darlings, With Valentine’s day around the corner, I want to let you in on a little secret. Just before February 14th is a holiday that solely celebrates that fabulousness of you and your beloved girlfriends. Galentine's Day is something you should have marked on your calendar, ladies. What is Galentine's Day, you ask?
As Leslie Knope once said, it's only the best day of the year. And, of course, she's right. After all, Leslie is always right.
Let Olga explain. Galentine's Day is a holiday Amy Poehler's Parks and Rec character, Leslie Knope, invented and if you’re not celebrating it, you are missing out -- big time! It occurs every year on February 13th, the day before Valentine's Day, and is a celebration of women. In the episode, Leslie explains, "Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas." Who doesn’t want to get onboard with that?
Here are some ideas to make the most of Galentine’s Day:
1. Throw A Party
Dollface, this one goes without saying. Galentine's Day wouldn’t be Galentine's Day without a gathering of gorgeous gals! So, my kittens, it’s time to pull out your calendars and coordinate with your posse of precious women. Once Galentine’s Day is scheduled, it’s time to plan some fabulous fun.
2. Eat Waffles
Or frittatas and mimosas. Leslie made a point of including delicious breakfast foods in the celebration, so it’s tradition. Get your brunch on! #noguilt
2. Exchange Galentine's Day Gifts
For Galentine's Day, Leslie gave her besties hand-crocheted flower pens, a portrait she made for each of them, and a 5,000-word essay she wrote for every person explaining why she loves them so much. A little much, you say? I agree. How about a grab bag of gifts and everybody brings one? Bet your beautiful besties would love an ORGO!
Happy Galentine’s day to you all! I hope you and your squad celebrates in style!
